My 3 boys and I

I hate it when I put my neck out. It happens every now and again. I dont know what I do to put it out. I tend to allow the headachy bit linger not doing much about it. Its a different kind of headache when I get it I know what Ive done yet again. I need to learn to act not ignore. Pretending it will go away before it leaves me weak and defenceless.

I first noticed it yesterday when I was putting My Little Man to bed last night. He sympathized with me over the fact that Mummy had a sore head. However, I was busy settling him.

Later it got worse. Much much worse. I asked Mr Wonderful to massage my neck. Turned out that was the wrong thing to do entirely. When I rolled over again the pain was intense, I felt nausea rising up within with me. I lay there in pure sheer agony. Holding my head and thinking it felt like there was a tight hat on my head squeezing.

Mr Wonderful got me a painkiller (which I didnt think worked in the past but he gave me a voltren) and a wheat bag. Although it was a warm night I hoped and knew that heat had worked before in the past. Finally I fell asleep.

This morning Im fine again. Note to self though ACT!!!! Its not going to go away by itself. It only takes a moment to take a pill. And avoiding if I can the pain will be so worth it.

  1. oooh yep I can sympathise there Jen. If I sleep the wrong way it hurts like heck. Nurofen is usually pretty good.

  2. ouch jen, i have had three crippling migraines in my life, all about twelve years ago, during pregnancy and post-pregnancy of J12.
nothing before or since, i am certainly not complaining. they are so nasty.
the only thing that worked for me was a voltaren suppository (can’t believe i’m writing this, ewwwwww) and six hours asleep in a very quiet, very dark room.
hope all is well now, love X

  3. gosh well that’ll teach me *not* to speed read, i missed the part where it was your *neck* causing pain and not a migraine lol.
and now the internet forever knows my suppository secrets lol X

  4. I wonder if you need your neck adjusted by a chiropractor? If massaging hurts, it may be out of alignment.

Keep a cold ice pack on it, no heat. It will make a difference.

I hope you feel better soon, kiddo.

  5. My husband doesn’t get migraines but he gets pretty incapacitating headaches. He has learned that, too, that if he can stay ahead of it and take a painkiller when it is first beginning, it goes much better than if he waits. Hope you fell better soon!

  16. Oh I sympathize, there is no pain like migraine pain! I’m so sorry you are susceptible to them. I used to get them often before I cut out caffeine, now when I get bad headaches, they aren’t migraine quality (thank GOD) and they’re almost always caused by my monthly…

I agree that you perhaps should get thyself to a chiropractor…having your neck out could easily cause a terrible headache.

    Stay well!
